Clejuso (Clemen & Jung from Solingen) are not much known outside of
Germany for the simple reason that law enforcement agencies and prison
administrations normally buy material produced in their own country.
If you take a close look at the german "Derrick" or "Tatort"
series produced in the seventies, you won't probably spot anything else
than the Clejuso brand; in these days there were two typical models - the
"lightweight" and the "heavy-weight" with one chainlink between the
cuffs.
The new models have a quite different look.
The Standard Cuff No. 12 is made
of stainless steel and has two chainlinks. It has 17 locking positions and it's
special design accommodates both very large and very small wrists. The same also applies to the hinged model No. 19R. Both
models are "lightweight" (about 300 g):
But Clejuso also produces the medium-weight and heavy weight variety:
These cuffs are REALLY HEAVY (1000
g for the medium weight and 1400 g for the heavy weight) and they look more like the modern version
of the ancient slave shackles. I have never seen a police officer carrying
these on his belt. I was told that they are sometimes used inside german
prisons to calm down agressive prisoners. But considering their weight it would
be a good idea to use them behind the back or attach them to a waistchain or a
leather belt as they could well be used as a weapon.
They have
nicely rounded edges and will not produce any skin abrasions like other
handcuffs but due to their weight they are not very comfortable if worn during a
longer period. They definitely are not "Ladie's cuffs" but
considering that women have equal rights nowadays I am not against the practice
of using them on slender girl's wrists.
